The Avon Recreation Department is under the direction of Mr. Douglas Carter. The program provides recreation services for the children of the Borough of Avon, as well as Avon Elementary School tuition students. Some of the activities include soccer leagues in the fall, basketball leagues in the winter, baseball and softball leagues in the spring, and Tennis lessons, Surf Camp, and Sewing Class in the summer.
The department also runs the Leisure Citizens, and organizes the annual Golf Outing, Raft Race, Halloween Party, after school Art Program, and Holiday Tree Lighting event.

Proof of Residency Policy: Avon Recreation reserves the right to request proof of residency at the time of registration. Please have available an Avon tax bill, water/sewer bill or lease along with your driver's license when signing up for summer activities.
Refund Policy: There are no cash refunds or credits issued for recreation activities.
After School Arts Program
During the winter, Avon Recreation sponsors an after school art program for students in grades 1-4. The class is held at the Avon Elementary School, but is open to all students grades 1-4 living in Avon. This eight week program focuses on decorative arts made from everyday objects. Registration information is included in the Avon fall bulletin.
Avon Day Kids Fun Run
Children ages 2–10 will have a fun run on Friday, May 30th at 6:00 p.m. at Norwood and Ocean Avenues. Registration forms are available online at or contact Brigid Magrini at 732-775-2912. Race day registration will be held 5:30 – 6:00 p.m. Entry fee is $10 thru May 1 and $12 after May 1. This event is being sponsored by the Avon Home and School Association.
The Avon Mayor's Ball is back!
Please join us for a fun evening of cocktails, dinner and dancing on Saturday May 31st from 6:30 to 10:30 p.m. at The Barclay. Music will be by Chik-A-Boom. Avon Day 5K Race
The 13th Annual Avon 5K Race will be held on Saturday, May 31st. This race benefits the Avon First Aid and Safety Squad. Registration forms are available online at or at the Avon Borough office. Children's Music Program
This program will be instructed by Tess Nielson, Director of Music Tomorrow, and is scheduled as a two week session (Monday through Thursday).
Music and Movement: "Musical Friends"
9:00 – 10:00 a.m. (Ages 3 to 5 – or entering Kindergarten in Fall '08) Basic concepts of rhythm, melody, and dynamics are taught through age appropriate activities.
Summer Music Camp: Heroes and Heroines of Broadway
10:00 – 11:00 a.m. (Students entering 1st and 2nd grade in Fall '08) Children will discover their own singing voice through simple exercises, vocal training, and appropriate musical selections. Basic music reading skills will be taught through sight-singing and music theory.
The two week session is scheduled for July 14-17 and July 21-24 in the Multipurpose Room at the Avon Elementary School. Registration fee is $80 per student. Contact Mrs. Nielson via email for additional information ( 
Tennis courts are located at the Jefferson and South Station Avenues. Attendants will be on duty starting June 6th through the end of August on Friday evenings from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday mornings from 8:00 – 11:00 a.m.

Tennis lessons will be offered in June and August. The cost is $30.00 per child per week. Lessons will be offered as follows:

Children will be taught the basic techniques of surfing, along with proper safety rules. Conditions permitting, the Surf Camp will be run as follows:

All sessions will be held at the Woodland Avenue Beach. The registration fee is $50.00 per child and includes lessons, games, a surf camp T-shirt and a bagel party on Friday.
Dress Design/Sewing Class
Girls in sixth grade up through adults will learn to design and sew in this eight week program. Class will be held at the Avon Elementary School on Monday and Wednesday evenings from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m., and will conclude with the girls / ladies modeling their work on Monday, August 25th at our fashion show. 2008 Summer Camp Recreation Program
Avon Recreation has joined forces with the Neptune City Board of Recreation to offer Avon children (between 5 and 12 years old) to participate in their annual program. It runs from June 30th through August 22nd from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The program will utilize Adam's Field, Memorial Park and the Community Center. Activities will include games, arts and crafts, sports and field trips. A snack will be provided each day in the a.m. session. Choice of a full day program or choose either the AM or PM session. Sand Castle Contest

Contest will be held at the Norwood Avenue Beach on Saturday, August 2nd from 9:00–10:30 a.m. (rain date August 3rd). The contest is open to all ages and there is no fee! Sign-ups will be the day of the contest outside the Avon Boardwalk Pavilion from 8:30-9:00 a.m. Contest age groups are 7 and under, 8-11, 12-16, and 17 and up. Each group may have five people maximum. Spray paint, toxic materials, and plastic molds are prohibited. Awards will be given out for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place.

Carmel, from Yoga Anjali, will be teaching classes in the Avon Pavilion each Tuesday from 8:30 – 9:30 a.m. starting June 24th through August 26th. Classes are $15.00 each and pre-registration is not required.

Great Ocean Raft Race
The Great Ocean Raft Race was so much fun last year, we are bringing it back in full force again this year. We are looking for at least ten teams to participate.
