AVON TOWN-WIDE GARAGE SALE: All residents will have the opportunity to participate in a town-wide yard / garage sale on Saturday, May 5th from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. - Rain or Shine! Applications are $5.00 and are available at the Borough office. Residents who register will be listed on a map and will be supplied with balloons to let buyers know they are participating in this sale.

AVON DAY KIDS FUN RUN: Children ages 2–10 will have a fun run on Friday, June 1st at

6:00 p.m. at Norwood and Ocean Avenues. Registration forms are available online at www.avonschool.com or contact Brigid Magrini at 732-775-2912. Race day registration will be held 5:30 – 6:00 p.m. Entry fee is $10 thru May 1 and $12 after May 1. This event is sponsored by the Avon Home and School Association.

AVON DAY 5K RACE: The 17th Annual Avon 5K Run / Walk will be held on Saturday, June 2nd. This race benefits the Avon First Aid & Safety Squad. Register online at www.jerseyrunner.com or pick up a form at the Avon Borough office. Early number and shirt pickup at the Avon First Aid building (520 Main Street) on Wed, 5/30 and Thurs, 5/31 (5-7pm). Late registration / shirt pickup at the Avon Pavilion (Ocean and Norwood Avenues) on Fri, 6/1 (6-8pm) and Sat, 6/2 (7-8:30am). RECREATION ACTIVITIES

Registration Dates for ALL Summer Recreation Activities, Swim Team, Water Ballet AND Fall Soccer are scheduled as follows:

Proof of Residency Policy: Avon Recreation reserves the right to request proof of residency at the time of registration. Please have available an Avon tax bill, water/sewer bill or lease along with your driver’s license when signing up for summer activities.

Refund Policy: There are no cash refunds or credits issued for recreation activities.

FALL SOCCER:

Combined with Belmar, the K-1 clinic program starts on Monday, August 13. There will be 1 night clinic followed by team selections. Teams are encouraged to have 2 practices per week. The games are played on Saturday mornings at 8:00 at 22nd Ave field (last game is Saturday, October 27). In case of rain make up games are played Sunday. Shin guards required; cleats strongly suggested.

Division II (Grades 2-4) and Division I (Grades 5-8) games begin in mid-September. Division I and II players will be contacted in mid-August regarding team rosters and coaches. Registration fee is $35 per child. Volunteer coaches are needed.

TENNIS: Tennis courts are located at the Jefferson and South Station Avenues. Courts will be utilized on a first come, first served hourly basis. Signs will be posted at the courts outlining general usage and availability. Please contact the Recreation Department prior to start of season, if reservations are required for tournament court time.

TENNIS LESSONS: Tennis lessons will be offered in June and August. The cost is $35.00 per child per week. Lessons will be offered as follows:

AVON SURF CAMP: Children will be taught the basic techniques of surfing, along with proper safety rules. Conditions permitting, the Surf Camp will be run as follows:

All sessions will be held at the Woodland Avenue Beach from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. The registration fee is $50.00 per child and includes lessons, games, a surf camp T-shirt and a bagel party on Friday.

DRESS DESIGN / SEWING CLASS: Girls in sixth grade up through adults will learn to design and sew in this seven week program. Classes will start the week of June 25, and will be held at the Avon Elementary School. Students will register for either the Monday 9:00-11:30 a.m. class or the Friday 6:00-8:30 p.m. class. The program will conclude with the girls / ladies modeling their work on Monday, August 20th at our fashion show. Registration fee is $50 plus the cost of materials, as required (maximum nine students per class). Sewing machines will be provided.

PROJECT FASHION: Our very own “Project Runway” will be offered again this summer. Students will be given a challenge each day, and will be designing and sewing a project. Each project will be judged during the August 20th fashion show. Winners will be announced, and prizes will be awarded for each challenge. Project Fashion will be held August 13-17 from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon at the Avon School. Registration fee is $75 and includes all materials. Class is limited to ten students.

YOGA: Morning yoga with the teachers of Yoga Anjali on the East End Avenue beach…starting Memorial Day weekend and every weekend in June; then daily from July 1st through Labor Day. Classes are 7:30-8:45am. Evening Yoga will be Monday’s and Wednesday’s from 6:00-7:15pm. Fee is $15 per class. Bring a beach blanket or towel.

2012 SUMMER CAMP RECREATION PROGRAM: The Neptune City Board of Recreation is once again inviting children of Avon (between 5 and 12 years old) to participate in their annual summer camp program. It runs from June 25th through August 17th from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The program will utilize Adam’s Field, Memorial Park and the Community Center. Activities will include games, arts and crafts, sports and field trips. A snack will be provided each day in the am session. Choice of a full day program or choose either the AM or PM session. There is a 5% discount if paid in full by April 27th. For registration form, email avonrec@optonline.net , or contact the Neptune City Board of Recreation at 732-774-0089.

2012 JUNIOR SAILING PROGRAM: Friends of Belmar Harbor (FOBH) will conduct online registration for their Junior Sailing program starting on March 15. They are offering one week sessions from 9:00am to 3:00pm. The nine one-week sessions start June 18th, and registration will be by age. Mayor’s Cup Regatta – Friday, August 24. FOBH has made some improvements and changes to this year’s program, including late pick up, so please visit their website at www.fobhnj.org.

SAND CASTLE CONTEST: Contest will be held at the Norwood Avenue Beach on Saturday, August 4th from 9:00–10:30 a.m. (rain date August 11th). The contest is open to all ages and there is no fee! Sign-ups will be the day of the contest outside the Avon Boardwalk Pavilion from 8:30-9:00 a.m. Contest age groups are 7 and under, 8-11, 12-16, and 17 and up. Each group may have five people maximum. Spray paint, toxic materials, and plastic molds are prohibited. Ribbons will be given out for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place.

SOCIAL DANCE CLASSES - SALSA, TANGO, HUSTLE & MORE: Dance classes return to the Avon Pavilion. Frank Young, a professional dancer and instructor will teach classes for ALL AGES. Fee is $40 per participant per course; singles and couples welcome. Drop-in fee is $12. Classes are scheduled on Monday evenings. Class dates and times are offered as follows:

GREAT OCEAN RAFT RACE: The 2011 Great Ocean Raft Race winning team, The Training Room has set the bar for this year’s competition. The event is set for Monday, August 6th (rain date Monday, August 13th). For rules and registration, go to www.avonbytheseanj.com or email avonrec@optonline.net . Please note that all participants must be at least 15 years old. Entries must be received by July 15! Only competitors who turn in entry form and fees by 7/15/12 are guaranteed a Great Ocean Raft Race shirt!

AVON LEISURE CITIZENS

A life of leisure begins at home for area seniors who meet Wednesday afternoons in the Avon municipal gym for good company, refreshments and plenty of fun. The group is open to both men and women, and meets at 12 noon weekly. Avon residency is not required. Join in on Bingo, Rummikub, Bridge, Poker or a game of your choice. We are full of surprises and lots of fun.

BOARDWALK CONCERTS

Location: Avon Boardwalk Pavilion (rain or shine) 7:30 – 9:00 p.m.

ART SHOW: This event is scheduled for Saturday, August 11th (rain date August 12th), and is held in and around the Pavilion on the boardwalk from 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. (only fine art / originals and prints – no photography). BOOK FAIR: The annual Book Fair is scheduled for Saturday, July 14th and Sunday, July 15th in the Avon Pavilion. Please come out and support the Avon Public Library.
