THE GREAT OCEAN RAFT RACE

RULES AND ENTRY FORM

DATE: Monday, August 6, 2012 (Rain Date Monday, August 13th)

ALL ENTRIES MUST BE RECEIVED BY JULY 15th

Only competitors who turn in entry form & fee by 7/15/12 are guaranteed a shirt

RAFT INSPECTION: 5:45 – 6:15pm - ALL RAFTS MUST BE INSPECTED TO ENSURE RULE COMPLIANCE

RACE TIME: 6:30pm start

AGE: 15 and Up

FEE: $10.00 per Person

COURSE: From Washington Avenue Beach (adjacent to the Shark River Inlet), out

and northward, then into the Woodland Avenue Beach.

TROPHIES: There will be a trophy awarded for the first team to finish the race

RULES: 1. No alcoholic beverages on the beach or in the water.

2. Four or more persons per raft (the more the merrier!).

3. Rafts are to be powered by paddles only. This means no oars, oarlocks, paddlewheels, fins, etc. Paddles may be homemade or commercially made. “Oars” that come with small inflatable boats are acceptable as long as they are used as paddles.

4. Flotation by inner tube only. Surfboards, canoes, squared off plywood, etc. may be placed on top of the inner tubes, but must not directly float on the water. Tubes must be inflated to the point where they cannot be shaped into “V’s”. Ropes cannot be tight or taped where the tubes create a “V” or a point on the tube.

5. Each raft should have a name and an American flag, and carry them in a way visible to spectators.
